WTA Finals Predictions
Sorry for the short post; not a lot is going on right now outside of the finals, so I’m talking about them today. Here are my predictions for the WTA Finals (made before I’ve seen any results). I don’t know the order of the Round Robin matches, but I will cover every possibility.
Group Tracy Austin:
Swiatek d. Gauff: A given.
Swiatek d. Garcia: The courts are slower and Swiatek is fresh off two titles, not a loss to Cornet at Wimbledon.
Swiatek d. Kasatkina: A given.
Garcia d. Gauff: Repeat of their US Open match.
Garcia d. Kasatkina: Garcia will punish Kasatkina’s weak serves.
Kasatkina d. Gauff: Kasatkina is the more patient player, and she has less glaring weaknesses.
Group Nancy Richey:
Jabeur d. Pegula: If anyone in this group is going to dismantle Pegula’s game, it will be Jabeur.
Jabeur d. Sakkari: Close match, but I just expect a choke from Sakkari. Could go either way, though, as I get the sense Jabeur’s mentality has gotten worse after two consecutive Slam final losses.
Sabalenka d. Jabeur: Sabalenka plays like Rybakina (who should be at the finals instead of Sakkari, in my opinion) but a little worse.Pegula d. Sakkari: Repeat of their Guadalajara match.
Pegula d. Sabalenka: I think Pegula could dismantle Sabalenka’s game and make her nervous on serve.
Sabalenka d. Sakkari: Could go either way. It will be a weird match and will not end how anyone expects it to.
Semis:
Swiatek d. Pegula: A given, and it will make Pegula really mad.
Jabeur d. Garcia: Repeat of their US Open match.
Final:
Swiatek d. Jabeur: Ouch.
Other:
Making predictions with Swiatek in any non-grass tournament is so fun.
Yes, I think Gauff will be the biggest loser in this tournament. She’s still not fully formed, but she’s really close.
As I said earlier, Rybakina should be here instead of Sakkari. It’s ridiculous and laughable. Rybakina won Wimbledon. Sakkari hasn’t won a title since that 250 in 2019.
I love the variation in playstyle in this tournament. Makes me wish Barty hadn’t retired.
